Kilimo Fresh Foods Emerges Winner For MEST Africa Challenge
The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) on Wednesday announced Kilimo Fresh Foods as this year’s winner for the MEST Africa Challenge.
MEST, a Pan-African entrepreneurial training program, seed fund,tech incubator and hub runs the MEST Africa Challenge, an African startup pitch competition for early-stage companies.
Nine startups from Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Senegal , Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa battled it out this year via a virtual pitch for the prize of $50,000 in equity investment.
Conclusively, Kilimo Fresh Foods, a Tanzanian agritech startup that provides digital farming solutions was crowned winner of the challenge.
Apart from the cash prize, Kilimo Fresh Foods will also have an opportunity to join the MEST incubator community and also have access to Microsoft support and coaching.
Ethiopia’s Debo Engineering, another agritech startup that matches farmers with agro service providers, took home the community prize.
Early on www.digitaltimes.africa reported that the MEST Africa Challenge is an African tech startup pitch competition for early-stage companies in some African countries including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Africa.
83 regional finalists were selected in June to participate in the virtual pitch event to select the overall winners for each country.
