Ghana’s Health-tech Startup, Zetta Emerges Winner Of Hacklab Hackathon 2021

Hacklab Foundation hosted Africa’s number one virtual contest, Hacklab Hackathon 2021 as part of their decade of action, to scale their vision and initiatives across the Global South starting from sub-Saharan Africa.

In collaboration with Stanbic Bank, GIZ, Vodafone, IBM, and Twitter, the event featured over 800 contestants across Africa and 50 coaches.

Emmanuel Lubanzadio, Twitter’s Head of Policy, Philanthropy, and Government Relations for Sub Saharan Africa graced the occasion with a speech about AI & Tech Policy and its impact on education and the future of work and information sharing in Africa

After numerous mentorship and training sessions, a 3-day nonstop coding period, and a five-minute pitch time, Zetta was announced winners.

Zetta is a three-member startup made up of students from Ashesi University, Hannah Lormenyo, Sandra Nettey, and William Akuffo. Hannah and William are Electrical Engineering students and Sandra studies Management Information Systems.

Zetta is a health-tech startup combining the power of artificial intelligence with the richness of healthcare knowledge, data, and experience to detect early autism in children.

Being the first of its kind in the country, the health-tech startup is focused on facilitating early diagnosis of autism in Africa using a portable and low-cost electroencephalography headset with automated diagnosis.

The headset will be placed on the scalp of the individual, and its mobile application will be connected to it via Bluetooth and record the signals from the different scalp positions.

With regards to operations, Hannah told Digital Times Africa, they are currently building prototypes. However, she elaborated they have no intentions of launching anytime soon as factors such as school would make it difficult for them to scale up.
